"I’ve worked with LGBTQ youth for the last 11 years and have met so many incredible, talented, beautiful, thoughtful people whose lives have been shattered by conversion therapy. It’s just about the worst thing that can happen to a young person, to be told that who they love and how they identify is a problem to be solved. And since it happens so often in religious spaces, it also carries the devastating message that God won’t love you unless you change. Imagine that, the idea that even God doesn’t love you the way you are. I grew up in a religious context and struggled greatly to love myself, but somehow managed to escape the horror of conversion therapy. As hard as my coming out was, I can’t imagine how much harder it would have been if somehow I had been submitted to such a dehumanizing experience. I’m deeply committed to making sure our youth are never again subjected to such a damaging practice, and that they know they are loved just as they are."

"It is of utmost importance that we end this terrible, inhumane practice. We must ban conversion therapy to protect human lives from hate groups that aim to destroy individuality, culture, and most importantly love."
